Join in the fun and make new friends while learning basic ice skating skills in a group lesson setting! Our Learn to Skate Classes are designed for varying skating skill levels from age 4 years old and up.
Good edges and core strength are the foundation for any type of skater. Whether you are the casual or competitive skater we’ve got a class to fit your needs!
Snowplow Sam 1-3
Designed for children 4-6 who have never been on the ice or had formal instruction.
These classes introduce the child to the ice, they learn how to fall and stand up safely, march across the ice, two foot glides, moving dips and much more.
Note: Children interested in Pre-Hockey should register for Snow Plow Sam classes until the skater can move independently across the ice.
Pre-Hockey 1-4
Designed for children ages 4 and up that can move independently across the ice.
The Basic Skills Hockey curriculum is designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey skating. In four levels, skaters will learn to move faster and be more agile on the ice. All elements will be taught without a stick or puck as proper skating techniques are the primary focus of the levels. Skaters will learn the necessary fundamentals to be successful in future game situations.
The “Basic Skills” Hockey 1-4 curriculum developed by Kevin Mann, USA Hockey in conjunction with STAR and the US Figure Skating Basic Skills Committee.
The Basic Eights
The “Basic Skills” are the fundamentals of the sport. The basic eights are designed for skaters aged 7-13. These eight levels introduce the fundamentals of forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers and turns. For figure skaters the basic eights include beginning jumps, and spins.
Freeskate 1-6
Available to Basic Skills 8+.
Offered to supplement private instruction in Moves in the Field, Dance, Spins and Jumps
* These classes scheduled depending upon enrollment.
Ice Dance *
Improve skating technique, flow, strength, musical expression, and balance by achieving set patterns & increasingly-difficult steps in time to varied tempos of music.
*Prerequisite of Low Free Skate or Higher.

A (3) student minimum* is required to hold a class.
*MIEC reserves the right to combine classes as necessary.
Level Evaluation
During the first week of class, our professional staff will evaluate skaters based on ability to ensure that the skaters are properly placed.
MAKEUP and REFUNDS
There will be NO make up lessons. MIEC will be unable to give refunds.
